St. Paul Croatian Church located in Cleveland, Ohio, has been the spiritual home to thousands of families since 1902. In celebration of the parish’s 100th anniversary, a 150-page commemorative book was created to capture Croatian church life – chronicling their special history, recounting personal narratives and sharing intimate photographs.
Cleveland artist Stanka Kordic illustrated a ceremonious portrait of St. Paul for the cover, which is wrapped with translucent vellum. The inside pages follow a structured grid of copy and photos forming visual squares, based on the checkered pattern of the Croatian flag. Explicative words both in English and Croatian are also featured, making the connection of being Americans, while still honoring parishioners’ Croatian roots. The result: a memento of generations for generations to come.
