SP Mount Printing, a family-owned printing company located in Cleveland, Ohio, celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2017, presenting the perfect opportunity to create a fresh identity to take the company into its next century. The pressman icon has been a consistent element of the original logo dating back to the 1930s. Though the appearance has been altered throughout the decades, it has remained a constant presence within the brand.
With the creation of SP Mount’s new identity, we simplified the pressman icon and removed the old-school letterpress he was so diligently working for 85 plus years. Within the early days of letterpress printing, the type choices were limited to block style and all caps. Modern versions of this style were selected to bring the logo into the 21st century, while maintaining all caps to honor the history. The contrasting color scheme represents the differences within the printing industry since SP Mount’s founding. An industrial steel gray paired with a bright eco-friendly green gives the identity an unexpected progressive twist for an environmentally conscious industry. The end result is a classic but very avant-garde personality. We then updated SP Mount’s web site to reflect their new look.
